One of my favourite things to do in Montreal over the holiday season is check out a Christmas market or two. There has been a real explosion of markets over the last few years and now there is a market to serve everyone's taste—indoor, outdoor, hipster, traditional, crafty, design-focused. Below are a few of my favourites:
The Nutcracker Market - November 30 - December 10, Palais des Congrès de Montréal (1001, place Jean-Paul-Riopelle)
This is one of my favourite Christmas markets to attend! It's on the ground floor of the very beautiful Palais des Congrès and has a mix of treats, with lots of jewellery and accessories, food and chocolate, and toys on offer. Every year we have got unique gifts (or a couple of fun treats for ourselves) at this market. Profits support Les Grand Ballet. Check out their website here for more information.
Le Grand Marché de Noël - December 1-24, Place des Arts (175 Saint-Catherine Street)
This market is fun to go to just for the experience! It's a huge outdoor market by Place des Arts that is fun to check out for the trees, lights and decorations, as well as the wares. Grab a hot chocolate and a beaver tail and sit by the outdoor fire and soak in the Christmas atmosphere. Not to be missed! More info here.
Salon des Métiers d'Art de Montréal - December 7-17, Place Bonaventure (800 De La Gauchetière Street West)
This is a HUGE craft sale with hundreds of vendors. It skews a little traditional for my taste, but there are lots of interesting finds to be had. There is also food and entertainment on hand. Click here for more information.
This market is a mixture of vintage and homemade treats, with clothing, jewellery, crafts, food stuffs, and other fun treats. You can find some great gifts here (though sometimes it has a bit too much puces if you know what I mean)—but beware it gets quite busy and crowded so go early if you can. This year they will be having different vendors each weekend, so lots to check out. Click here for more information.
Etsy MTL Marché des Fêtes - December 16-17, Théâtre Denise-Pelletier (4353, rue Ste-Catherine Est)
I haven't been to the Etsy market for a few years, and I think it's gotten a lot bigger since my last visit. The year I went it was small, but very nicely curated. I found it hard to resist walking away without buying everything I saw. Here is their Facebook page with some more info.
Do you love Christmas markets?
XOXO
P.S. The picture above is from souk@sat, an amazing design-centric market held at the Society for arts and technology every year. Some of the wares are quite pricey—but you can get some amazing pieces from some very talented local artists and designers. It's usually the first weekend of December, so be sure to check it out next year!
